Bed Sheets

The centerpiece of every bedroom is the bed. It’s the retreat you go to after a hard day’s work to replenish your energy and just to get into calm and relaxed mood.

To help facilitate your comfort, a bed sheet is usually added to cover your mattress and for you to lie on. The bed sheets are usually two pieces, one "fitted" sheet and another flat piece.

The fitted piece is first placed on the bare mattress and has a piece of elastic at the four corners to ensure that it is snug and tight around the edges of the mattress.

The flat piece is then placed on top of the fitted and you can then lie on top of the flat piece if you are just resting, or lie between the fitted piece and the flat section for added warmth and comfort during sleep.

Bed sheets are generally made from typical fabric material such as cotton, linen, silk, rayon and cotton/polyester blends. When buying a bed sheet, you will notice a thread count associated with each set.

This is the number of threads per square inch of the fabric, and the higher the thread count, the softer the bedding will be. Other factors that can influence how soft a bed sheet will be is the type of thread and how it was weaved, so you may end up with a lower thread count sheet being softer than a higher version.

Bed sheets today come in more colors than the traditional white, and patterns are also abundant and can be chosen to match an entire bedroom theme. Most sheets can be thrown in with the regular laundry load and don’t require and special handling.

Sheets need to be washed frequently, at least once every two weeks, as we spend almost half a day in our beds, so they can accumulate a lot of dirt and germs. As with any wash load, you need to sort them by color to prevent any color damage.
